Algerian Colonial Repression Strikes Again in Kabylia: Arrest of Karim Djidjeli and Kamel Beghdad

Aokas, Kabylia (Siwel) – The Algerian colonial dictatorship continues to intensify its repression in Kabylia. This time, it is in the coastal town of Aokas that the colonial police have arrested two Kabyle citizens, Karim Djidjeli and Kamel Beghdad.

Karim Djidjeli was arrested at his workplace on February 20, 2025, while Kamel Beghdad was apprehended the following day. After their arrest, they were transferred to the Vgayet central station, where they are currently being held in custody. We denounce these arbitrary arrests and raise concerns over the risk of torture, a practice sadly known to be used by the Algerian colonial regime.

It is crucial to emphasize that Karim Djidjeli and Kamel Beghdad have done nothing wrong. On the contrary, they are highly helpful citizens, engaged in society and active in the field of human rights advocacy. Their peaceful commitment to fundamental rights and freedoms can in no way justify their arrest.

In the face of this latest wave of repression targeting Kabyle activists and the population in general, we would like to reiterate that the Kabyle people’s determination to live freely remains unshakable. The struggle against oppression and for a sovereign Kabylia continues.
