KABYLE GOVERNMENT IN EXILE
MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS
A Brutal and Systematic Repression Orchestrated by the Algerian Regime
For several months, and even more so in recent days, Kabylie has been subjected to unprecedented repression by the Algerian colonial regime and its so-called “security” forces. Kabylie, a historic stronghold of resistance and freedom of expression, has now been transformed into a zone under military occupation, where intimidation and harassment have become the norm.
A Suffocating Security Network
Every day, the Kabyle population faces an oppressive security deployment. Military and police checkpoints cover every commune, with some villages subjected to two control points. Far from being “security” measures, these checkpoints are, in reality, tools of repression designed to hinder citizens’ freedom of movement and maintain a climate of terror.
In addition to these omnipresent checkpoints, police patrols scour roads and alleyways, both by car and on foot. Every movement is scrutinized, every gathering is viewed with suspicion, and any citizen can be detained without legitimate cause. This constant harassment aims to stifle all forms of political organization and break the popular will.
Surveillance and Intimidation of Activists
Political activists and civil society leaders are particularly targeted by this repressive policy. The IRG, the regime’s political police, relentlessly hunts down those who dare to denounce oppression. They are followed, permanently surveilled, their movements tracked, and their communications spied upon.
Many activists are arbitrarily arrested, interrogated, and tortured for hours or even days, simply for social media posts or for belonging to Kabyle movements. The criminalization of opinion has become a systematic practice, and Kabylie is now more targeted than ever by this repressive machine.
A Climate of Terror Maintained by the Regime
Beyond arrests and constant surveillance, intimidation has become the regime’s weapon of choice. Night raids on activists’ homes, abusive searches, and psychological pressure on families are commonplace. The authorities seek by all means to instill fear and discourage any form of opposition.
This repression is not limited to activists; ordinary citizens are also affected. Anyone suspected of sympathizing with the independence movements or expressing Kabyle identity claims can become a victim of abuse and reprisals. Freedom of expression is trampled, and public space is entirely militarized.
A Call to the International Community
In the face of this alarming situation, it is imperative that the international community becomes aware of the fierce repression descending upon Kabylie. The complicit silence of major powers only serves to encourage the Algerian regime in its repressive policy.
Human rights organizations must mobilize to denounce these abuses and demand an end to this brutal repression. Kabylie must not be abandoned to its fate. Its fight for freedom and dignity deserves the support of all those who defend democratic values.
It is time to break the silence and make heard the voice of a people who refuse to bow to oppression. Kabylie resists, and its quest for justice and freedom cannot be silenced by force and repression.
Long live a free and independent Kabylie!
