On April 20, 2025, the Coordination of the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia in the United Kingdom (MAK-UK) successfully organized a commemorative gathering in London to mark the anniversary of the Black Spring. The event brought together numerous activists, supporters, and members of the Kabyle diaspora to honor the memory of the 128 martyrs of the 2001 Black Spring and to show unwavering support for Kabyle prisoners of conscience unjustly detained by the Algerian regime.
In a solemn and resolute atmosphere, participants waved the Kabyle flag, chanted for self-determination, and sang patriotic songs. Several speeches emphasized the just and peaceful struggle of the Kabyle people for freedom, dignity, and the right to self-determination.
Despite an attempted disruption by agents of the Algerian regime, the MAK-UK coordination and attendees remained united and composed, showing political maturity and determination.
MAK-UK praises the exemplary mobilization and reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the pursuit of a free and sovereign Kabylia. This gathering marks an important step in strengthening solidarity within the Kabyle diaspora in the UK and reflects the ongoing vitality of the Kabyle people’s struggle for their rights.
